[SOLVED] J-link SAM4L-EK error "Failed to launch program. Error: Failed to write DP register 0x2" Continued

Hi,

This Problem was already reported in this Forum before but only solved with some magic.
J-link SAM4L-EK error "Failed to launch program. Error: Failed to write DP register 0x2"

We have the same Problem now:
Error: Failed to write DP register 0x2

We are not using the evaluation kit but the ATSAM4LC8C.
The SAM-ICE is a new Version.
Programming and debugging with JLinkExe and JLinkGDBServer works but not with ATMEL Studio V7.0.

Thank you for your inquiry.
Such an issue is not known to us.
We tried to reproduce the reported behaviour using a SAM4L8 Xplained Pro board with a start up project from Embedded Studio and everything was working without any issues.
Could you give the attached project a try? Embedded Studio can be used for evaluation purposes for free and can be downloaded here: https://www.segger.com/downloads/embedded-studio/

Hi,

Sorry for the late reply, I was traveling and could not test on a windows VM.

With SEGGER Embedded Studio it seems to work with the example project.
Surprisingly after Testing with SEGGER Embedded Studio i could once download also with ATMEL Studio 7.0.
But then got breakpoint errors.

Trying again to debug with ATMEL Studio failed then again. First with a error that the Programmer is not avialable.
Which really was detached from the Virtual machine. Probably the USB identifier of the SEGGER-ICE
gets changed during download or something. Directly followed again by a DP register 0x2 Error.

ATMEL Studio directly interfaces with J-Link/SAM-ICE, so if there is an issue then it is in the handling of ATMEL Studio and not J-Link as J-Link is only doing what the IDE tells it to do and is generally working without any issues in Embedded Studio.
Please understand that we can't put more time into investigation as from J-Link perspective everything is working correctly. ATMEL Studio and SAM-ICE support is handled through Microchip so we suggest getting in contact with their support.
