  • [ABANDONED] JLink Remote Server Not Working with Tunnel Mode

    Hello Everyone,
I have to debug a remote hardware using JLink and IAR.
I read about JLink Server Tunnel and I think I can use it.
But somehow I am not able to make it work, can someone please help me in getting this done.

After unsuccessful attempts, I made remote server on my laptop and tried to connect it using my same laptop but by Remote Server, I think it should work.
Below are the steps I followed.
    * Used SEGGER Tunnel Server, with Name:Hello and Password:World, with jlink.segger.com server selected.
    * JLink Remote Server Configuration.PNG is attached below.
    * After this from JLink commander I used the following command.

    Shell-Script

    1. ip tunnel:Hello:World:jlink.segger.com

    * After executing the above command, for few seconds I get message in remote server i.e. "Client Authenticated", this is shown in the image "JLink Remote Server Client Autenticated.PNG"
    * But after sometime, I get the error which is as below.

    Shell-Script

    1. J-Link>ip tunnel:Hello:World:jlink.segger.com
    2. Connecting to tunnel:Hello:World:jlink.segger.com
    3. Connecting to J-Link via IP...FAILED: EMU_GetFirmwareString: Insufficient data read when trying to read the string length.
My main purpose is to debug the project using IAR Embedded Workbench.

Please check "JLink Remote Server IAR Setting.PNG" file, I used this setting in IAR to Debug and used the following line.

    Shell-Script

    1. tunnel:Hello:World:jlink.segger.com
    But nothing works.

Can someone please suggest what I am doing wrong?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi,
    Thank you for your inquiry.

The J-Link Software you are using is fairly old.
Could you please update the Software on host and client PC and try again?
You can find the latest version here: segger.com/downloads/jlink#J-L…twareAndDocumentationPack

If it still does not work after updating:
    1) Could you please send us a J-Link log file? How to enable:
    wiki.segger.com/J-Link_DLL#Enable_J-Link_Log_File
    2) Is it possible to connect to the J-Link directly (using the exact same setup but without the J-Link Remote Server)?

    Best regards,Fabian
