  • Segger J-Link + Atollic TrueStudio

Hello, my name is Dominik and Im form Poland.
Few weeks ago I have bought your J-Link Programmer, Im very pleased with yours programmer because it works form first connection. (Of course with your program, and I mean - I was able to detect target, and read flash).
Last week I have decided to use Atollic "TrueSTUDIO" Lite for STM32 from now on. Atollic is yours "gold partner" so I thought that your software is compatible. But it's not so simple.
In TrueStudio settings I can't find Segger J-Link, theres only ST-Link there. Well, I thought "no problem", I will compile my project in TrueStudio, and than launch your program, and program target manually by choosing hex file.
BUT THERES NO HEX FILE. TrueStudio makes only .elf files. Segger program can't open .elf files.
Of course I was searching for solution. And I have founded information, that installing "GDB server" should solve this problem. Ok than, I have downloaded GDB server, but than I face another problem! Theres no ".exe" file, or any installation/executable file in "GDS server" folder. Its like a lot of txt files and folders. Well Im a little bit "stubborn" and I don't give up easy. But now - I have problem with almost every part of my Toolchain. What is more, Im not so good about this gcc configuration etc, so could you please send me some information, or link to tutorial, how to combine TrueStudio with your Segger J-Link?
Because I wan't to start my adventure with stm32 as soon as possible.

  • Hi Dominik,

I guess you use the trial version of Atollic TrueStudio? In this version you can select only the ST Link as debugger, this is a limitation of the the free trial version.
Why do you want to use Atollic TrueStudio? There exists some toolchains which are easier to use. for example Rowley Crossworks (rowley.co.uk) or IAR Embedded Workbench (iar.com).
You can use J-Link with these toolchains also in their trial versions.

    Regards,
    Til
