  • [SOLVED] J-Link Pro Remote Ethernet Connecion of Internet through VPN

    Hello,

We have several J-Link probes with USB connectors only. I am considering purchasing a J-Link Pro with the Ethernet connector. We are experiencing what is most likely a firmware issue on a unit in the field which only occurs about once a month or so. I am thinking about sending our customer the J-Link Pro and having them connect it to our unit. We have a VPN connection set up to allow us to get onto the customers network. The connection appears somewhat slow at times, but not extremely bad. We can reliably communicate with our units at this customer through the VPN connection.

My question is whether or not the J-Link Pro would work ok for this remote connection and allow me to debug the field unit from my office. Is the J-Link Ethernet driver fairly robust with somewhat slower Ethernet connections or do you think it would have issues. I hate to go though all of this trouble with the customer if it will not work.

    Thanks
    Greg
  • Hi Greg,

The J-Link PRO was mainly designed for inside LAN debugging, so VPN connections may cause some trouble with internal delays.
However, it would be possible to make them user-configurable in the J-Link software, so that also slower VPN connections are possible.

You could also try our J-Link Remote Server in tunneling mode with one of your USB-based J-Links.
The tunneling mode was introduced exactly for this case, debugging remotely over internet, expecting big latency:
