  • JLink V4.42b does not work with Win XP 32-bit running in VMWare Fusion, running on Mac OSX 10.7.3

    Hi,
Ive updated the software pack from 4.42a to 4.42b.
If iI start JLink Commander (4.42b) I can see terminal, nothing going on, after some seconds: "dll cannot be loaded" and terminal still "autistic". Close all, replug JLink and start older (4.42a) version: all working well.

Same thing using beta version: one time started new Commander version nothing works and JLink needs to reconnect (via USB to reload driver).

My system: WinXP 32Bit as VM (VMWare Fusion), host system OSX 10.7.3 Lion.
On Debian VM all works well.

Tried using JLink EDU and SAM-ICE.

    Regards,
    Sebastian

  • Hi Sebastian,

I am wondering a bit here, since the only difference between V4.42a and V4.42b is that in V4.42b a bug has been fixed that when switching the target interface multiple times
during the same debug session (without closing the DLL in between) re-connecting to the target could fail.
The remaining parts of the DLL are identical to V4.42a.

My system: WinXP 32Bit as VM (VMWare Fusion), host system OSX 10.7.3 Lion.
On Debian VM all works well.

On the systems we are testing, everything works well.
We did not test it under VMWare Fusion but we do not see why it should not work.

    Best regards
    Alex

  • Hi Alex,
    its really stance thing.....
By the way, every time I close new commander JLink will be found as new hardware (JLink EDU), but not SAM-ICE (it must be re-plugged), very strange, really.
I cannot see any reason why it could not work on VMWare too.
Demo from Keil runs whiteout any problem (cause another all-file), CooCox and CrossWorks not "like" 4.42b but runs without any problem using 4.42a.
My versions are V8, I can send you SerialNrs if needed.
    Firmware compiled 8.2.2012 (newest).

    Any idea?
I have no problem to use 4.42a version and wait for new release, but if it will still not work?
    Best regards,
    Sebastian
P.S. Ive mailed you some weeks ago - no answer...;-)
  • Hello Sebastian,

Copied JLink-dll from 4.42a to 4.42b : all seems to work back. DLL files are NOT identical!
Have even different size and compile time.
    Firmware still 8.FEB 2012

Of course V4.42a and V4.42b are different DLLs, were would be the reason of making a new version if it is completely identical?...
But this is also NOT what I wrote. We did some smaller changes in the DLL source code from V4.42a to V4.42b to fix the bug I mentioned before.
But APART from THESE changes the source code is identical to V4.42b. Nevertheless, by doing some code changes, this of course has an influence on the DLL size and the new one differs from the previous one...

Would it be possible to get the VMWare image you are working with, so we can have a look at this here?
If you can make it available to us, please send a download-link via PM.

I do not think that you wrote an e-mail directly to me. If you are referring to the PM you wrote:
The Mac version of J-Link is almost done but needs a final test before making it available on the net.

  • Oh,

I just wish to remind you, but not antagonize or annoy you, sorry.

Its even totally great news about OSX driver!!!!!! :)

My VMWare Fusion VM are custom built and over 40Gig (cause Altium Designer etc) - so its is not really possible to upload it.
Ill make small new one to check JLink 4.42b on it without additional software and will let you know about it.
Or, if you already tested on one VM image- let me know about, please.

    Best regards,
    Sebastian
  • Hi Alex,

Ive make new VM XP-SP3 (latest), without any additional software: exactly the same strange thing.
Installed CoIDE+CodeSourcery Lite: 4.42a gdb(cl) works fine, 4.42b can not find JLink and and CoIDE kill debugging after some minutes.
Plugged JLink directly to iMac (not used USB-Hub), checked USB-2 support from VM - same thing.

This problem disturb me not too much (cause Im hardware developer and learn embedded C privately), I use to think this problem will be interest for you.

Ill use 4.42a and wait for OSX driver and next Windows driver update.

    My best regards,
    Sebastian

P.S. Ive just reply mail you wrote me here in forum mail-add. (on german) week ago or so, but, doesn't matter ... ;)
