J-Link flash support for ESP32

  • Hello,
the addition of support for ESP32 devices to J-Link was indeed great news - thank you.
While it is now possible to debug code from Ozone, ESP32 internal flash programming seems still not supported (although stated in the announcement, "debug and program").
Do you have plans to add support for flashing ESP32 via Ozone/J-Link?
    Best regards
    Stefano

  • Hello,

The statement that J-Link supports both "debugging and programming" for the ESP32 is incorrect—this was likely a misunderstanding.
J-Link support for the ESP32 is limited to debugging only and does not include flash programming. Currently, there are no plans to add flash programming support.
Could you provide a link to the announcement mentioning ESP32 support? We would like to review and correct any misleading statements.
However, if you need to program the ESP32, this can be done using the Flasher via the UART interface.

    Best regards,
    Simon

  • Hello Simon,
thank you for the clarification. Here you find the page stating "J-Link debug probes offer full support for Espressif ESP32 devices" and "This update enables developers to debug and program Espressif's RISC-V-based microcontrollers".

    Best regards,
    Stefano
