  • [SOLVED] Unable to upgrade firmware on J-Link Edu Mini

    Hi!

I'm trying to upgrade the firmware of myJ-Link Edu Mini.

    Source Code

    1. SEGGER J-Link Configuration V6.60e
    2. Logging started @ 2020-01-18 14:47
    3. Updating firmware of emulator 1 of 1 via USB (SN: 801000389)...
    4. Error.
The J-Link Edu Mnii is the only device conencted to USB. I tried with the other USB ports of my PC, to no avail.

The exact same procedure succeeded with my J-Link Edu probe.

    Thank you for your help!
  • Hi,
    Thank you for your inquiry.
Such an issue is not known to us.

Did you write the config area of the J-Link?
The nickname looks broken. Did you set a nickname for your J-Link?

Could you please try to do the following in the J-Link Configurator:
    - reset the config (right click on the J-Link and press "Reset config")
    - replace the firmware (right click on the J-Link and press "Replace firmware")

    Best regards,
    Fabian

  • Hi!

    Thank for the tips.

I don't remember having written the config area of the J-Link.

Unfortunately, none of the suggested solution succeeds.

However, debugging with the J-Link probe works fine.

Is there another procedure I could try?
  • Hi,
Did the reset of the config area work though?

Just to eliminate the possibility that this problem is connected to the J-Link Configurator:
Could you please try to update the firmware via the J-Link Commander?
Just open the J-Link Commander and connect to the J-Link EDU Mini.
This should prompt the update dialog.

    Best regards,
    Fabian

  • The J-Link Commander connects successfully to the J-Link Edu mini. The firmware seems to be up-to-date.

    Source Code

    1. SEGGER J-Link Commander V6.60f (Compiled Jan 20 2020 16:16:43)
    2. DLL version V6.60f, compiled Jan 20 2020 16:15:17
    3. Connecting to J-Link via USB...O.K.
    4. Firmware: J-Link EDU Mini V1 compiled Jan 7 2020 16:53:19
    5. Hardware version: V1.00
    6. S/N: 801000389
    7. License(s): GDB, FlashBP
    8. VTref=0.000V
    9. Type "connect" to establish a target connection, '?' for help
    10. J-Link>
    Display All
However, JLinkConfig still fails to connect to the J-Link Edu mini.

How to use the J-Link Commander to force an update and clean the config area?
  • Hi,
Yes, you can also reset the config area via J-Link Commander:
Please connect to the J-Link and type "resetconf" (without quotations).

After doing so: Is it now possible to connect to the J-Link EDU mini via J-Link Configurator?

    Best regards,
    Fabian

  • Thank you for your help!

It is now possible to connect via J-Link configurator. As an additional benefit, the name of the probe is clean!

I went through the document UM08001 (Software Version: 6.60, January 6, 2020) but didn't find the "resetconf" command. Maybe a next release will mention it.

    The problem is solved now.

    Thank you and best regards,
  • Hi,
    You are welcome!

Good to hear that everything is working as expected now.
