[SOLVED] ST-Link Reflash Utility for ST-LINK V3E ?

  • Hello,

    Thank you for your inquiry.
Currently there are no plans to add the ST-Link V3 to the reflash utility as all ST Evalboard released so far with this ST-Link version offer a debug interface for external probes so you can use your J-Link directly without any trouble.

    Best regards,
    Nino

Sad to hear that. The small NUCLEO-32 boards do not have the MIPI-10 connector.
That is interesting. ST assured us that all ST-Link V3 boards will have the 10 pin connector for external probes which was the reason why they did not want to cooperate in this case.
Could you provide a link to the Nucleo in question?

  • Here's the user manual:

    st.com/content/ccc/resource/te…lations/en.DM00493601.pdf

There is no 10 pin connector for the target processor.

Of course, all STM32 pins are available on pin headers, so you could use jumper wires to connect an external J-Link to PA13/PA14. The embedded ST-Link goes into three-state, so you can do it in principle.

But that's no substitute for the Reflash-Utility, which was the killer feature for Ozone evaluation. It will be dearly missed by students.

BTW: The manual mentions a not-fitted CN2 SWD Connector -- that goes to the STlink's STM32F7 itself, not the target.

  • Hello,

Ok so it appears that the small size 32 pin Nucleo boards don't offer the header due to space constrictions.
Nonetheless all 64 pin and higher models should come with one.

We will see if we can add a guide to our Wiki explaining how to use a J-Link with the 32 pin board versions.
As it stands for now there will still be no plans to expand the reflash utility.

    Best regards,
    Nino

I guess, there will be troubles.
Look at the NUCLEO-H743ZI2 board. Read the UM2407 (en.DM00499160.pdf) at page 18.

When you state the jumper JP1 (STLK_RST) ON, the embedded STLINK-V3 is in
RESET state and all GPIOs are in high impedance, then you can connect your external
Debug tool on the debug connector CN5.
OK, that's good, but the MCO output of ST-LINK is in high impedance too and does not feed the STM32H743 MCU with HSE clock! I checked it. It's really true.
How to debug app in this case?

It would be very good if you changed your plans. :)

Please refer to ST Support in this case as this is not our product.

As it stands for now ST informed us that there is no need to provide us(SEGGER) with information and the license to reflash the ST-Link V3 as all boards allegedly can be used with an external probe.
Should that not be the case please see with ST support as without ST's assistance and allowance a Reflash Utility for ST-LinkV3 can't be created by us.
