[SOLVED] How to prevent J-Link from automatically updating firmware on Linux

  • [SOLVED] How to prevent J-Link from automatically updating firmware on Linux

On Linux:This is second time now I notice that after upgrading J-Link installation and running J-Link, it does not ask like on Windows, but proceeds to update the firmware.
How to prevent it? (flag to tell it NOT to do this..? seems this is default behavior on Windows ).

As a side effect, while is updating it my Linux drops USB device and that update fails, leaving the J-Link with no / corrupt firmware.
If not for the J-Link bootloader installed I probably would have it fried.
  • Hi,

On Linux:This is second time now I notice that after upgrading J-Link installation and running J-Link, it does not ask like on Windows, but proceeds to update the firmware.

This is the intended behavior. We currently do not ask on Linux / macOS, because we do not support GUI interactions in the command line tools on Linux / macOS.
I do not know if there are plans to ask on Linux / macOS, in the future, since updating the firmware when using a new J-Link software, which is manually(!) updated by the user (!!) makes sense.

How to prevent it? (flag to tell it NOT to do this..? seems this is default behavior on Windows ).

Please get in touch with the mail support. There is no official way.

    Best regards,

  • Hi Niklas,

Ok, I was taking it as risky in case update goes wrong & fries J-Link box.

(I'm updating my J-Link application soft because of bug fixes I want in or expect to fix things..)
  • Hi,

Ok, I was taking it as risky in case update goes wrong & fries J-Link box.

Well, that is what the boot loader is therefore. :)
The bootloader is not updated during fw updates and therefore should always be available as a fallback.

    Niklas
