  • [SOLVED] How to use JLinkGdbServer with 8051 and C2?

    Hi,

I've used J-Link GDB Server with 32-bit MCU products (EFM32) with SWD in the past. I heard that J-Link now supports debugging 8051 devices, so now I'd like to figure out how to use J-Link with 8051 (EFM8 and C8051) devices. These devices can be selected in the GUI of J-Link GDB Server, but I can't set the target interface to C2. (There is no such option on the GUI and the command line version doesn't recognize -if C2 either.)

My question is this: is there a way to make the J-Link GDB server work with 8051 devices?
This would be a huge help for our project. Thanks in advance for your answer!
  • Hi,

unfortunately, the J-Link GDB Server does not support 8051 devices.
Support for the 8051 was implemented to be used with Silabs Simplicity studio.
Later support for the 8051 IDEs by IAR and Keil was added.

    Best regards,
    Niklas
Would you like to be added to the J-Link software update notification list, so you get informed automatically when a new version becomes available?
Just write me a PM or in case you want to subscribe to it yourself, please use this link: Link

  • Hi,

they use the J-Link SDK (Part No 8.08.06 on the price list).

Please contact SEGGER via Mail for more information regarding the SDK and 8051 devices.

    Best regards,
    Niklas

  • Hi Niklas,

Thanks for the link and information. That sounds like something very out of scope for our project with regards to both budget and effort. (I was kind of hoping for something that I could "just use", without the need to bother with those IDEs.)
One last question: is it in the plans to support 8051 in the J-Link GDB server? Or are you aware of a similar solution?
  • Hi,

    Well, what about J-Link Commander?

is it in the plans to support 8051 in the J-Link GDB server?

There are no plans. You could get in touch with the SEGGER sales / management and ask them to make an offer to implement this feature for NREs.
However, if the SDK is out of scope regarding the budget, this would be way out of scope.

    Best regards,
    Niklas
