  • [SOLVED] J-Flash Programming fails

    Equipment: J-link Plus (FW version: V9 2016 Apr 22 11:47)
    PC: Windows 7

I installed the JLink 512h SW package to a PC running Windows 7 and programmed several (100+) devices. 2 weeks later, J-Flash programming failed with the error message shown in the attachment (note that J-Flash 510i was used in that case, but the same issue appeared in 512h).
Note that erasing the device sometimes works (sometimes the J-link is not able to connect at all), but programming consequently fails. Note that I am not sure what has been installed or done on the PC, as it is a production PC (not used by me). Also note that the exact same setup (same cables, device, etc.) always works on my PC, so the issue would likely be the USB driver, J-Flash Software, or something else on the other PC.

I have tried to uninstall the J-Link SW (using the uinstall that comes with the JLink install) and remove the JLink driver (via Windows device manager), but the same issue occurs after reinstalling.
Is there anything that could affect the J-link performance in this way? Could for example several (not Jlink related) USB devices being connected to other USB ports affect anything? Is there something more than uninstalling JLink and removing (and deleting) the USB driver using the device manager that could be done to fix it?

  • Hi,

(what happened to the formatting of your post?)

Well, since it works reliable on one PC, I would assume that the issue is outside of the SEGGER software.
Is there anything that could affect the J-link performance in this way? Could for example several (not Jlink related) USB devices being connected to other USB ports affect anything?

If they deteriorate the PC-USB latency that much that the J-Link cannot communicate in time, yes.
Could you disconnect the other devices and give it a try?

    Best regards,
    Niklas

  • Hi,

    Thanks for the quick reply!
I tried disconnecting the other USB devices, but it didn't seem to make any difference. I've also reinstalled everything a number of times, tried different versions of the Jlink SW, etc.

(I pasted my previous question from a text editor, so I guess that messed up the formatting. Fixed it now.)
