  • [ABANDONED] J-Link Pro - Win 10 error code 10

After updating to Windows 10 x64 I once in a while have the problem, that the J-Link driver shows the error in the Device Manager:
This device cannot start. (Code 10)
    {Operation Failed}

    The requested operation was unsuccessful.

This is when connecting a "J-Link Pro". Disconnecting / connecting it, even to another USB port, result in the same error.

But if I try to connect my "J-Link Ultra" to the same cable (not changing the port) this works.

It only happens once in a while and restarting the PC nomally resolves the error.

I am using drivers version "5.10o", but previous version gav the same error. J-LInk driver version 2.6.8.1.

Any ideas how to solve this?

    Kind regards
    Jes Holm
  • Hello Jes,

we are not aware of any issue regarding J-Link PRO + Win 10.
Does this issue also occur with any other PC / OS?

Is there any pattern in order to reproduce the problem?

    Best regards,
    Niklas

  • Hi Niklas,

I have not tried with other OS recently. When I was using Windows 7, I have never seen it.

Unfurtunately there i not pattern to reproduce it...

I think it is strange that I can swap to a Ultra and then it works.

Can I provide you with any more information?

    Kind regards
    Jes
  • Hi Jes,

could you make screenshot of the Windows device manager with view settings set to 'Devices by connection" while this issue occurs?
It only happens once in a while

When does it happen? On connect / reconnect or while connected?
Could you give us an estimate about the frequency? (Approx once a day, twice a day, once a week etc...)

    Best regards,
    Niklas

  • Hi Niklas

Please see the attached screen dump.

I happens after reboot with the J-Link connected. I happens maybe once a week.

In this situation it does not help to connect the J-Link Pro to other USB ports. But if I connect JLink Ultra it works. Only a reboot solves the "J-Link Pro problem".

    Kind regards,
    Jes

  • Hi Jes,

It seems to be a problem of the PC. It might be related to a bad or to long USB cable or to the J-Link PRO consuming more power.
We have never seen anything like it.
You can try to use a powered USB- Hub (e.g this one), but we are guessing at this point.

    Best regards,
    Niklas

  • Hi Niklas,

I had the problem again this morning. Tried a brand new and short USB cable in the same port. Did not help.
Disconnected the Pro and connected an Ultra+. That worked. Then swapped the Ultra+ with the Pro and the same error.

I will learn to live with it. Thanks for your help.

    Kind regard
    Jes
