  • Second Segger J-Link EDU to die

    Hi,

I just wanted to report that my second Segger EDU unit just up and died. Gave up its ghost. Nada. Not detected on USB bus, not LED light, etc. The latest one was HW version 9.3, and I had just upgraded my toolchain to 5.12g. I just plugged my unit into my USB port (via a USB HUB), and poof!

I am not sure what's going on? Any diags I can run? I love these debuggers, but I can't have them die on me once every 6 months. I have a new unit now, with HW version 9.4. Hopefully, it will be ok, but I am thinking I should stock up on these things.

Any one else running into this? My target chip is a Nordic 51822 (Cortex M0 core).

  • Hi Ujwal,

We are not aware of any problems on J-Link side regarding "sudden deaths".
Almost all dead J-Links we investigate after a RMA or Trade-In process have been damaged by a too high (or sometimes negative) USB-Voltage.
We sell a https://www.segger.com/jlink-usb-isolator.html which can prevent damage from low-quality USB-Hubs. (Not a reasonable price spot to protect a J-Link EDU)
Our engineers use this USB-HUB: D-Link DUB-H7 during development.

    Best regards,
    Niklas
