  • [SOLVED] jlink doesn't support cortex-m7 stm32f746ng on discovery board

    Hi

I tried to connect my jlink to my stm32f7 discovery board , but I got the message the the detected cortex m7 is not supported by the jlink software
I have the latest version (5.02f) on the jlink.
I searched on the website and this microcontroller should be supported
What could be wrong here ???

    Kind regards,

    Ronny Suy

  • Hi Ronny,

    Thanks for your post.
First, please let me correct this:
I tried to connect my jlink to my stm32f7 discovery board , but I got the message the the detected cortex m7 is not supported by the jlink software

Not the software does not support M7, your J-Link does not. Your J-Link model is too old.
This is also what the message says.

I recommend to make use of the trade-in program to get a current model:
    segger.com/trade-in-program.html

    Best regards
    Alex

  • Hello,

    I bought in 2013 a J-Link Plus Vers. 4.82

By downloading the latest JLink software, I managed to update my J-Link to Vers. 5.02k
Does it now support a STM32F7 Controller?

I am wondering because you recommended to buy a new J-Link
  • Hi,

    I bought in 2013 a J-Link Plus Vers. 4.82

4.82 is the software version you installed on your PC.

According to the S/N your provided with your registration, you bought a J-Link Vers. 9.2,
    but Ronny owns a J-Link Vers. 8.0 .

    Cortex-M7 is supported by
    J-Link Base / Plus V9 and higher
    J-Link Ultra+ / Pro V4 and higher

Thus, your J-Link does support Coretex-M7, but Ronnys does not, so we suggested he may trade in his J-Link, in order to upgrade with a 50% discount.

    Best regards,
    Niklas
