  • Installing J-link for ARM software under Ubuntu

Hello, I'm trying to install a J-link EDU for ARM on an x86 machine under Linux
12.04LTS. There don't seem to be any clear installation instructions,
the manual seems to be strictly MS oriented. In the compressed download
file there is a README.txt file, the first few lines are as follows
(with comments - ***). I'm trying to follow the instructions in the file, but things aren't going to plan.

    Requirements

    ============

Please make sure that you have installed libusb as this is necessary for

the J-Link to work via USB.

You can install it the following way for all apt-able Linux derivates:

    apt-get -install libusb

*** Firstly, the only way I can get this command to work

***is without the hyphen in front of 'install'. Secondly,

***when I run the command correctly (under sudo of course),

***I get an error saying that libusb *** can't be found.

This will update the apt-get package resources and download and install

libusb. Please unplug and replug your J-Link after successful

    libusb installation.

You also need to make sure the libreadline is installed on your system.

This library is needed by the JLinkExe utility.

*** How can I check that this library is present? And if it isn't how do I obtain it and install it?

My experience working through the start of this information isn't very
encouraging. Are there any clearer, more explicit instructions anywhere
for installing under Ubuntu? Thanks / regards to all
